Secret

from Shark Party by Sam Mulligan

about

This was the first track I publicly released as 'Sam Mulligan', and the first I made using a gameboy that sounded pretty close to how I wanted it to sound in my head. It was the first song I recorded for the weeklybeats.com challenge in 2012 (I think), and I continued to work on it a bit after I uploaded it. Up until this point I didn't really know how to make the bass parts sound loud and bassy and awesome, but I heard the sounds I wanted to use in other chip music songs by 10k, and Danimal Cannon, and Bright Primate, so I knew it was possible. So I had used gameboys in songs before this, but didn't think I had it quite right yet. This was a step towards what I wanted, and I was very proud of it at the time.

lyrics

I've got a secret
It's something you'd never expect
to hear from me
We've been friends such a long time

But I've got a secret
And I feel like it's time to let you know
Just promise that you're not gonna hate me
Whoa

Are you gonna tell me what it is?

That smell in your car
That's been there for months
That smell in your car
It's you.
